Uncovering the Common Thread

Are you listening to what life is trying to tell you?

When you look back at all the choices you’ve made, what pattern shows up again and again in your life? What consistent thread ties together the story of your life? The central theme that connects it all?

When I look back on my life, I see a quiet, persistent longing to be different. Even at four years old, I wore my eye patch like a badge of honor, proud that one of my eyes wandered its own way. In primary school, I slipped a paperclip into my mouth to mimic braces - not exactly elegant, perhaps ;) - but it set me apart, and I adored that feeling.

That desire to stand apart didn’t fade with time; it deepened and took shape through the choices I made. It whispered to me when I left the corporate world to follow a path of holistic healing. It guided me in 2018 to create Recharge House, a space where people could reconnect with and learn to work with their own energy systems. And in 2020, it was the heartfelt call to leave my home country behind for the beautiful island of Ibiza.

Patterns can be very beneficial and an accelerator for growth: they can help to make genuine, authentic choices that serve your purpose in life.

The other side of the coin is when (unhealthy) patterns unconsciously run the show. You see yourself repeating the same behaviour over and over again. Attracting the same unbalanced connections. Starting a new habit and then seeing yourself sliding back into the old one (Hello, New Year’s resolutions that last for 2 weeks!).

It doesn’t necessarily have something to do with discipline, commitment or the willingness to change. When you notice that - how hard you try - things don’t change, often karmic patterns are involved. These patterns can run the show while we seemingly have no control over it. It can feel exhausting, draining, and it keeps you stuck in repetitive cycles.

Karmic patterns are emotional, energetic, or behavioural patterns that originate from past experiences. These patterns - often unconscious - can influence how we think, feel, and act in the present.

‘Past experiences’ is and should be seen as a broad definition. There’s a growing number of studies that show that the effects of trauma can unconsciously be passed down to next generations, even if those later generations did not experience the trauma themselves.

Does this mean that you keep attracting unavailable partners because your grandmother didn’t heal from her heartbreak? Not necessarily, but it can be beneficial to broaden your perspective here a bit. Becoming aware of certain patterns and their origin helps to understand our behaviour in the present.

The same goes for this: what is the source of the repetitive pattern? When you notice recurring patterns, it may be worthwhile to see where they come from. For example, the desire to feel different: does it come from a grounded, healthy place, or is it an unconscious pattern, trying to fulfill the times that we didn’t feel seen? A fear of being one of many? Being not so special?

Whether it’s a pattern lingering for ages in your family lineage or a rather ‘new’ one, these patterns can become your greatest friend: your ticket to your highest potential, your success, your fulfilling life.

What it asks from you is: are you ready to see the lessons behind it? What is it trying to tell you? Are you ready to take the lesson, integrate it, and move forward?

When we become aware of the ‘loop’ - the unconscious patterns running our lives - and shift from autopilot to conscious choice, we can break free from what keeps us stuck and move into a more open and fulfilling phase of life.

If you’re ready to grow and let go, let’s take some time today to reflect: What’s your pattern? Your common thread?

…And is it still serving you? Or is it time to let go?
